PLOT SYNOPSIS
ACT 1
Four generic rock girls take the stage and ask the audience which one they think is the lead. (“Intro”) Eventually three exit leaving Danni. She, and the rest of the punks welcome the audience. (“Burn Out”) Sophie introduces herself as the Narrator. She will continue to narrate the show to varying degrees of success.
As Danni is getting ready for a performance one morning, she is greeted by her friend Sophie, and berated by her roommate, Valerie. A rock comes flying through the window by her ex-boyfriend, Abe. They have a tense discussion about a mountain of unresolved issues and Abe leaves pissed. (“About the Window”)
Later that night Danni and her bandmates Adam, Grover and Cleveland are waiting to perform. They are just one of many bands trying to get noticed (“Up Against the Wall”) While on stage, Abe begins heckling from the audience. He takes the stage where he and Danni come to blows. (“Inside Out”) After the show Danni is feeling dejected and low (“Whatever’s Left of me”) until she gets a voicemail from an agent. They saw her show and want to sign her. Unfortunately, they’re only interested in she and Abe as a pair.
As Danni goes to Abe to convince him to work together again, the other characters hi-jack the narrating job from Sophie to give their differing opinions on Danni and Abe’s relationship. (“Second-hand Smoke”) Abe agrees to rejoin the band. In a meeting with the head of the Record Label, they find he’s most interested in exploiting Danni, and Abe’s relationship for media attention. Abe is against it, but Adam insists, convincing Danni. (“Capital U.S.A”)
Danni and Abe have an argument about the pros and cons of taking charge of your life. (“Are you Gonna (go for it)” Meanwhile, Valerie worms her way into meeting the Label Owner, and gets the number of an influential talent agency. (“Two-Dimensional Lover”) As the band prepares for the Investor’s Gala, a make-or-break event with the label, Abe has a panic attack. He finds himself on a bridge contemplating suicide. Sophie sees him on a jog and makes a full heart-ed effort to change his mind (“Hardwired”)

(“Written in the Paper”) The day after Abe’s suicide attempt, he rejoins the band. He and Danni rekindle their romance, but he does not tell her about his mental state. (“The Deal”) Meanwhile, Grover and Cleveland are unjustly labeled radical (“Radical”)

Abe reveals his issues to Danni. She is supportive, but she decides not to miss her chance and goes onstage for one last performance (“My Home Now”)

(“It’s Val!”) As her stardom grows larger. The band crashes. The label drops them, and Adam, Grover, and Cleveland leave.
